Each time you get involved with any of the activities you will gain a GET ACTIVE point for your tutor group. Most lunch time activities are taster sessions and if there is enough interest in a specific activity we will run another competition session.

At Totally Tennis we love playing tennis so much we have made a career of it, and now we want you to enjoy it as much as we do!
We have created a buzzing tennis programme to welcome anybody who wants to get on court. Whether you can barely hit a ball, or are a world-ranked player, we can offer you something that is affordable, accessible, progressive and FUN.
In 1991 we started with just a handful of players and have grown to coach a thousand a week. Our coaches are qualified and licensed with the Lawn Tennis Association and we are also inspected and approved by OFSTED. The Lawn Tennis Association has accredited us as a National Mini Tennis Centre and as a National Performance Centre - one of just three in Hampshire.
We can also boast (but we try not to) about our BTCA Young Tennis Coach Of The Year, LTA School Of The Year and Basingstoke Sports Council Club Of The Year awards.
Our 16 years of developing tennis in Basingstoke have been a huge success, so if you fancy a piece of the action, we'd love to see you!

| Volleyball Club |
Web: http://www.basingstokevc.org.uk |
We're an easy going, friendly volleyball club that encourages novices right through to skilled players. We take our social scene as seriously as having a good laugh on the volleyball court whilst getting a decent work out.
We have enough members of all ages, shapes and sizes to run three teams, (Men's A, Men's B, and Ladies) in the area league, so there's room to grow and move on up! League matches are normally held on a Sunday from October until April.
The summer season is now just starting and continues until September when our indoor season starts. This is when we recover from the summer (!!) and get back into training to prepare for playing matches in the area volleyball leagues, getting fitter, as well as honing up on our volleyball skills.
We have club nights every Wednesday between 7pm and 9pm, (from 3rd September) at Everest College where we welcome players of all abilities including beginners to the game. We're training in a brand new gym so we're looking forward to that. Every session is run by a qualified EVA coach and we're going to be starting with the basics, so you'll get a good foundation. If you're a beginner and play other ball / racquet sports you should pick up the basics of volleyball easily, as its all about timing. It will get you fitter too, we promise!
Friday is team training at QMC from 6.45pm to 9pm, are for our local league team squads to improve on their teamwork and game-play so we can be a competitive against other clubs - Newbury, Farnborough, Maidenhead and Reading, to name but a few.
If you have any questions please contact us via the website, or better still, come and find out for yourself. Hopefully we'll be seeing you on court very soon!

Walking - the perfect way to
"Get Active"
Enjoy your local parks and open spaces, and improve your fitness, by joining the Walking for Health Scheme in Basingstoke during "Get Active" week.
Led by Volunteer Leaders, the walks vary each week and are non competitive. Everybody is welcome and all walks are free of charge.
For all walks please wear clothes and shoes suitable for the weather, bring a drink of water and arrive 15 minutes early for registration. Please feel free to just turn up on the day and make yourself known to the walk leader (in the florescent yellow tabard) the first time you come along.
Monday 7 July at 11am meet at the Boathouse in Eastrop Park, Town Centre at 11am. Two walks are available: Car parking and toilets available.
- The Leisure walk is a fairly fast pace and generally about 3.5 miles and takes around 75 minutes.
- The Health Walk is between 50 -60 minutes at a more leisurely pace, ideal for any one wishing to improve their health.
Wednesday 9 July at 11am meet Jenny in the café area (just inside the main doors) at the Aquadrome, Basingstoke, 11am (please arrive a little early to register) for a walk of about an hour. Reduced rate refreshments available in the café afterwards. Car parking and toilets available.
Wednesday 9 July at 7pm - meet at the junction of Eastrop Park and Eastrop Lane by the water fountains for a brisk walk of about 1 - 1.5 hours.
Thursday 10 July
The Walled Garden, Down Grange - Meet leaders Keith and David at the Walled Garden car park, Down Grange, Pack Lane, Kempshott, at 11am. This walk takes between 60 - 75 minutes and refreshments are available after the walk in The Bothy. Car parking and toilets available.
There will also be a Tai Chi session in the Walled Garden after the walk - at 12.30pm.
Friday 11 July meet at Popley Fields Community Centre at 11am for a walk of approximately 1 hour - led by Millie or Evadne.
Regular walking gives you more energy and staying power, better health and lower stress. It also helps prevent thinning bones (osteoporosis), heart disease and certain cancers. And you'll be doing your bit for the environment by leaving your car at home.
It doesn't matter whether you do your 30 minutes all in one go, or as two or three chunks throughout the day. And, did you know - walking a mile uses up just as many calories as running a mile? And that's between 70 and 100 calories, depending on your weight.
Build walking into your life
Try these ideas to clock up 30 minutes of walking a day - you'll be amazed how easily the weight drops off and your fitness levels increase:
- Walk to the shops instead of taking the bus.
- Take the stairs instead of the lift.
- Pick the kids up from school on foot rather than by car.
- Walk all or part-way to work - you'll save money and feel bright and positive when you get in. (Wear comfy shoes, and you can carry some others in your bag).
- Instead of a tea break, take a walking break at work.
- At work, take your lunch out with you to the park instead of eating it in the canteen.
- If you're at the laundrette, go for a stroll while your clothes are drying.
- Set your alarm for 20-30 minutes earlier in the morning so you can walk before breakfast.
- Stretch your legs at the station while waiting for your train to depart.
- Park your car at the far end of the car park from where you're going, so you get a few strides in on the way.
- Going shopping? Amble around the shopping centre once or twice before you go in.
Keeping it interesting
- Buy a pedometer to measure progress. The idea is to clock up 10,000 steps per day to protect yourself from obesity, heart disease and high blood pressure/cholesterol, diabetes and various cancers
- Take the scenic routes - through the park or via quiet side roads. But at night stick to well-lit streets and it's better to walk in company.
- Try varying your pace - alternate between walking five minutes fast and five minutes at medium speed.
- Set yourself some targets - in week 1 you might walk from home to the next bus stop, then pick up your bus in week 2 you might head for the bus stop after that, and so on until you're walking all the way to work.
- Count up how many minutes you have spent walking and log it in a diary.
Striding ahead
Once you've been walking for a few months you'll be rearing to go. Here are some ideas for branching out:
- There are many footpaths running through the beautiful Hampshire countryside surrounding Basingstoke and the villages in the Borough. Walking guides can be bought from the Tourist Information Centre which range from family walks around the villages to National Trail Guides. You can also pick up a free leaflet on the Basingstoke Canal Heritage Footpath.
- The Wayfarer's walk runs 70 miles across Hampshire, passing through Ashmansworth, Kingsclere, Oakley, Dummer and The Candovers
